SallyAnne have been involved in all kinds of crafts since childhood developing a particular passion for rural craft leaning mostly towards fleece artistry and natural decorations. Her aim is to produce affordable, ethical hand made craft that shares her love of nature and rural crafting whist supporting British farmers.
Now living in Cumbria, she is inspired by the countryside around her to create images using sheep’s fleece specialising in realistic animals, birds, local or commissioned landscapes. She uses natural, hand dyed and heritage or rare breed sheep’s fleece in her images ensuring there is depth and texture to each unique piece. Animals are mixed media with fleece fur or feathers and landscapes 100% fleece.
Wherever possible she forage and purchase fleece from local shepherds. Her main suppliers are shepherdesses working in Cumbria, Lancashire, and Yorkshire with heritage and rare breed sheep aiming to maintain these precious stock. Farmers are in negative equity with shearing now out weighing the cost of a fleece. Processed fleeces, those which have been scoured (cleaned) and carded (combed), are much more valuable.
The hand dyed fleeces are created using acid dye. Not as ominous as it sounds the acid is actually vinegar 😄 and some ‘natural’ dyes are themselves poisonous!
The sheep artwork come to life on a backing of sustainable, hefted Lake District Tweed cloth woven from fleece provided by Cumbrian farmers to patterns unique to the region.
As each item is skillfully crafted using a variety of techniques and natural items, which are in themselves unique, the image on this website reflect the style of work available.
SallyAnne uses her teaching background to design crafting kits using resources kindly provided by Mother Nature that will inspire both new and experienced crafters alike. These affordable kits include all the tools and materials required to complete the project including framing and presentation.
Her passion for teaching and shares her skills to others by offering workshops in her beautiful garden studio.
